Planning your website

Planning your website

Define the goals

  1. Goals define the direction of the site - everything from the functionality to the colour scheme.
  2. Goals can also help to limit the scope of the project, deciding what yo need and what you do not whilst also providing a means of measuring success.
  3. Goals can address the type of visitor you want, what you want your visitors to do on your site and perhaps suggest features that will help visitors to achieve the objectives.
  4. Goals may also indicate whether your site needs to go live all at once or in phases.

Create a sitemap

A sitemap will help to visualise the structure of your site. How many pages will it need?

A sitemap will also help to organise the pages into categories that will then form the basis of the navigation.

At this stage, you can also decide what type of pages you will need - does the After Sales Carecontent change very often, will a particular page contain video or special graphics?

You can also begin to decide how many images or photographs you may need to balance the text.

List the content & functionality

AB Media Services HostingNow is the time to decide what each page will need to say. Try to decide what functionality it will need to accomplish your goals.

At this time it is also an idea to research keywords and phrases that can be used within your text to help search engines to better direct visitors to your site.

Decide on the layout of your pages - which pages will have the same layout and which pages may need to look a little different.

I recognise that getting everything perfect and just the way you want to have your site can take time. It's often necessary to "live" with something for a short while before deciding whether it's right or could use a little "tweak".

For the first 3 months after your site goes live, I will make any adjustments to text and images for free
